AUBERICHT THE MAGNIFICENT waved an arm to take in the other members of the Golden Company. "We'll go in and reconnoiter," he said. "You retainers can guard the side passages and start making breakfast."
Garum was triggering the enchanted heat stone in his cooking gear when the wizard globes above him suddenly went out. He heard a crack and fizzle like a bolt of lightning hitting water and saw a bright flash emerge from under the door the Golden Company had just stepped through.
“What was that?” asked Flisk.
“Whatever it is, it's not good,” said Drain.
“Should we open the door?” asked Arrex.
“I suppose we must," said Sweetie.
Garum opened the door and saw the chamber was empty, save for a small wooden chest and several piles of clothing, weapons, and artifacts.
The Golden Company was gone...
